JEFFERSON CITY, MO, OCT. 19, 2005 --- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will present Lincoln Intermediate Center teacher John England with the 2005 Water Education Award for his efforts to educate students about water quality issues. England will be presented with the award on Oct. 21 at the school, located in Farmington.

Sharing his love for nature with students, England has spent countless hours teaching them how to care for water resources through monitoring activities on the Big River. In December 1999, he founded what is known today as the Lincoln Intermediate Center Stream Team. England is a dedicated science teacher who's innovative idea of taking students on field trips to see various presenters stationed along the riverbanks teaching different aspects of ecology has been a true success. England is quick to mentor and share ideas gained through his 16 years of teaching experience.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources presents the Water Education Award annually in conjunction with World Water Monitoring Day activities. World Water Monitoring Day, held on Oct. 18, gives citizens an opportunity to positively impact the health of rivers, lakes, estuaries and other waterbodies. Volunteer monitoring groups, water quality agencies, students and the general public are invited to test four key indicators of water quality: temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and turbidity.
