JEFFERSON CITY, MO, NOV. 10, 2005 -- The Missouri Department of Natural
Resources will open a temporary exhibit on Civil War medicine in the State Capitol in Jefferson City. The exhibit will open with a ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, in the Capitol rotunda.

The exhibit, which is located on the north side of the Capitol rotunda, will focus on the medical efforts made west of the Mississippi River during the Civil War. The medical efforts and advancements that occurred are an often-overlooked part of the Civil War but will be highlighted in this exhibit.

During the opening event, the Missouri Brigade Medical Service re-enactors will re-create a hospital scene from this era. The group has been conducting interpretive medical re-enactments for more than 15 years and is a sanctioned unit of the Missouri Civil War Reenactors Association. There will be a number of artifacts on display from the collections of the Missouri State Museum and Wilson's Creek National Battlefield in Springfield.

Doug Eiken, director of the Department of Natural Resources' Division of State Parks, will serve as master of ceremonies for the opening event.

The exhibit will be on display through June 30, 2006. The Capitol is open to the public free of charge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
