JEFFERSON CITY, MO, NOV. 22, 2005--The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, as a sponsor of the Missouri Stream Team Program, presented the Dedicating a Decade award to volunteers with 10 or more years of service. The 23 volunteers recognized have shown long-term commitment to the water quality in local streams by submitting data to the program on a regular basis. Whether they monitor as a family, club, classroom or as individuals, the data they collect is very valuable. Not only is the information used by state agencies, but also by communities near the streams. Volunteers who monitor water quality protect the health of streams for future generations.
The recipients were given an engraved plaque signed by the department's Director, Doyle Childers.
The Stream Team Program celebrates volunteers' achievements during activities recognizing World Water Monitoring Day, held on Oct. 18. This annual event is observed in over 30 nations and gives citizens an opportunity to promote the health of rivers, lakes and estuaries around the world.
