JEFFERSON CITY, MO, NOV. 28, 2005 --- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has extended the public comment period concerning the draft air pollution permit for Kansas City Power and Light's (KCPL) Iatan Generating Station. The department extended the comment period four days to Dec. 9. Interested parties should send written comments to the attention of James L. Kavanaugh at Department of Natural Resources, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176 by e-mail or by fax to 573-751-2706 by 5 p.m. on Dec. 9.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will also host a public hearing on the draft air pollution permit for Kansas City Power and Light (KCPL). The hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, at the West Platte R-II School District, High School Gymnasium, 935 Washington St., Weston.

After the conclusion of the public comment period on Dec. 9, the department will then prepare a document that incorporates responses to all comments, both written comments and oral testimony from the hearing. The response to comments document will detail the department's response and any changes made to the permit based on the comments.
The application requests authority to construct a coal-fired boiler (Iatan Unit 2), a fuel oil-fired auxilliary boiler, associated storage, handling and pollution control equipment, a fuel oil storage tank and a landfill. Kansas City Power and Light also intends to modify the existing coal-fired generating unit to increase the heat input and upgrade the pollution control system.
