JEFFERSON CITY, MO, DEC 22, 2006 --- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is hosting a public meeting on Jan. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the U.S. Army Reserve Center in Bethany, to provide information regarding current research and analyses of the area's source water. This is part of a larger planning effort under way to secure enough good water to meet northwest Missouri's present and future needs.

In question is the long-term sustainability of the glacial drift aquifer that supplies source water to parts of the northwestern region. Staff from the department's Water Resources Center will present information and answer questions regarding the properties of the aquifer.

In addition, the Water Partnership Team of Northwest Missouri will discuss its recent findings from of a baseline study of 83 water systems in the 12-county region. The team, sponsored by Northwest Missouri State University and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, is a group of volunteers planning for long-term water supply solutions for the counties of Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Harrison, Holt, Nodaway and Worth.

The meeting is open to the public.
