MISSOURI SAFE DRINKING WATER COMMISSION MEETS MAY 24 IN JEFFERSON CITY

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MAY 9, 2007 -- The Missouri Safe Drinking Water Commission will hold a public meeting at 9 a.m., May 24, Lewis and Clark State Office Building, 1101 Riverside Dr., Jefferson City.

As part of the meeting, the commission will hold a public hearing on the amendment to 10CSR 60-13.010, Grants for Public Water Supply Districts and Small Municipal Water Supply Systems. The commission will also vote on the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Intended Use Plan.

At its March 6 meeting, the commission unanimously approved Elizabeth Grove, Monroe City, to be the new chair of the commission. Grove has been a member of the commission since 1997 and replaces former chair Dr. John T. Witherspoon, Springfield, who remains on the commission. Witherspoon has been the chair of the commission for the past 12 years. Grove previously held the position of vice chair, now filled by Lanny Meng, Oregon, Mo.

"As a member and chair of the commission, John has provided excellent leadership and expertise over the past 15 years," said Grove. "As the new chair, I look forward to working with John and the rest of the commission members in the coming year."

Grove is the general manager of the Clarence Cannon Wholesale Water Commission in Stoutsville and has extensive experience in the drinking water industry. Grove is also a member of the American Water Works Association, the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference, and the Missouri Rural Water Association.

The Missouri Safe Drinking Water Commission includes nine commission members that represent both the public water supplies in Missouri and citizens of the public. Four of the commissioners currently represent the public water supplies. Five of the commissioners currently represent the citizens. The commission advises the Missouri Department of Natural Resources on various drinking water issues.
