DEPARTMENT HOSTS PUBLIC HEARING ON
DRAFT SOLID WASTE PERMIT FOR
AMEREN UE SIOUX POWER PLANT IN ST. CHARLES

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, JAN.22, 2007 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will host a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at the Orchard Farm Senior High School Commons room, 2165 Highway V, St. Charles.  The hearing is on the draft solid waste disposal area construction permit for the Sioux Power Plant Utility Waste Landfill owned by AmerenUE.  The proposed facility will be used for the disposal of utility solid waste.

The proposed site is located about two miles west of Portage Des Sioux, approximately one-quarter mile south of State Highway 94.  It consists of 398.04 acres; the landfill disposal area is approximately 183.5 acres.  The general legal description of the site is NE ¼ of Section N/A, Township 48 North, Range 6 East, Latitude 38° N, Longitude 90° E.

The department’s Solid Waste Management Program reviews all applications submitted by cities, counties and private owners to ensure that solid waste disposal areas are properly designed and constructed.  Other technical factors that protect Missouri’s environment also are examined.

Citizens can review a copy of the draft solid waste disposal area construction permit at the
St. Charles Library - North County Branch at 1825 Commonfield Road or P.O. Box 190, Portage Des Sioux, MO 63373.  A copy for review is also available upon request at the department’s Solid Waste Management Program Record Center at 1730 East Elm Street in Jefferson City.  Citizens must first call 573-751-3043 or fax a request to 573-522-3344 attention Rhonda Loveall, custodian of records, prior to their review.
