JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 14, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $500,000 grant to the city of Adrian in Bates County.  The city will use the funds to construct improvements to the water treatment facility to comply with new surface water treatment rules.

These improvements include replacement of existing influent pumps with two new pumps, upgrading the primary and secondary sedimentation basins, replacement of conventional filters with a new membrane filtration system, additional clear well storage and chemical feed enhancements.

The grant funds come from a bond issue approved by Missouri voters in 1998 for improvement to wastewater and public drinking water systems.  The funds will be used in conjunction with a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Direct Loan in the amount of $4.1 million, provided through the Department of Natural Resources.  The project is estimated to cost more than $4.6 million and is expected to be completed in spring 2009.

The Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant funds.  For more information, contact the Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO  65102-0176 or call 800-361-4827 or 573-751-1192.
