JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 14, 2008 - The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $670,185 grant to Washington County Public Water Supply District #4.  The district will use funds to build a wastewater collection and treatment system in the Holiday Shore area.

The area currently relies on residential septic or aerated tanks. The new wastewater system will eliminate 114 of the current septic systems.

The grant funds come from a $50 million bond sale in November 2007, which funded Governor Blunt's Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.  The funds will be used in conjunction with grant and loan funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program and the Department of Economic Development Community Development Block Grant Program.  The project is estimated to cost almost $2.1 million and is expected to be completed in October 2008.

The Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant funds.  For more information, contact the Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176 or call 800-361-4827 or 573-751-1192.
