JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 17, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $462,000 grant to the city of Exeter in Barry County.  The city will use the funds for improvements to the water system.

These improvements include replacement of the water distribution system, renovation of an existing water storage tank and construction of a new water storage tank.

The grant funds come from a $50 million bond sale in November 2007, which funded Governor Blunt's Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements.  The funds will be used in conjunction with a U. S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant and loan and a Missouri Department of Economic Development Community Development Block Grant.  The project is estimated to cost almost $2.3 million and is expected to be completed in fall 2008.

The Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant funds.  For more information, contact the Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program at P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO  65102-0176 or call 800-361-4827 or 573-751-1192.
