JEFFERSON CITY, MO, MARCH 17, 2008 -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has awarded a $500,140 grant to the Village of Indian Point in Stone County. The village will use the funds to build a wastewater collection and treatment system.
Currently, the village relies on residential septic systems. The new wastewater system will eliminate 58 septic systems, a small package plant and one non-permitted lagoon.
The grant funds come from a $50 million bond sale in November of 2007, which funded Governor Blunt's Clean Water Initiative for water and wastewater improvements. The funds will be used in conjunction with loan funds from the Department of Natural Resources' State Revolving Fund. The project is estimated to cost almost $1.4 million and is expected to be completed in March 2009.
The Department of Natural Resources will administer the grant funds. For more information, contact the Department of Natural Resources, Water Protection Program, P.O. Box 176, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0176 or call 800-361-4827 or 573-751-1192.
