WHO: Missouri Department of Natural Resources
WHAT: 14th annual Earth Day celebration
WHEN: Friday, April 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
WHERE: South lawn of the Capitol building
WHY: The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will welcome nearly 1,400 fifth graders from all over Missouri to the 14th annual Earth Day celebration. Earth Day is targeted toward students, but the event is free and open to the public, as well.
The department sponsors the event and is being joined by 11 other local, state and federal agencies with booths, exhibits, interactive displays and stage shows on the grounds. Stage shows will include Environmental Survivor, hosted by KWOS radio personality Warren Krech. Environmental Deal or No Deal, an environmental version of the popular game show, will return for another year. The Department of Natural Resources' "garage band" The Earth-Tones will also perform.
The department has set up a Web page for media outlets to obtain pictures and additional information about the event. The photos will be uploaded by 4 p.m. on April 25. Note to Editors: At the time of this advisory, 65 classes from 30 schools in 16 counties have registered to attend the 2008 Earth Day event. Schools have registered from the following counties: Adair, Boone, Callaway, Camden, Cole, Cooper, Crawford, Maries, Miller, Morgan, Moniteau, Newton, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Randolph.
