JEFFERSON CITY, MO., JUNE 30, 2008 -- Learn about and see birds of prey at the Raptor Awareness Program on Saturday, July 12, at Mastodon State Historic Site near Imperial. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the program begins at 1 p.m. in the site's picnic area off of Seckman Road.
Learn a vulture's secret weapon and how to identify birds of prey when the World Bird Sanctuary from St. Louis brings spectacular raptors of Missouri, such as falcons, hawks, owls and vultures, to the site. Get an up-close look at some of the birds as they soar right over your head. This program is suited for all ages. Seating is limited, so visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Mastodon State Historic Site is located 20 miles south of St. Louis. Off Interstate 55, take the Richardson Road exit (#190). For more information, contact the historic site at 636-464-2976 or the Department of Natural Resources toll free at 800-334-6946 (voice) or 800-379-2419 (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf).
