Missouri Streamgage Summit, March 10, 2026

The department's Water Resources Center is hosting the first Missouri Streamgage Summit.

Area of Focus: Water
Event Type: Event
Organization: Water Resources Center

The department's Water Resources Center is hosting the first Missouri Streamgage Summit. The goal of the summit is to share information and spark ongoing conversations about Missouri’s streamgages. This event is open to the public and professionals from across the state from both public agencies and private organizations. Please contact Colby Thrash to RSVP to the event.

Missouri is currently home to a network of more than 270 streamgages across the state. A goal of the Waters Resources Center is to protect and improve the quality of Missouri’s hydrologic data. How to further this goal, and others concerning Missouri’s streamgage network, will make up the agenda for the summit’s presentations and discussions.

Streamgages provide the essential and foundational data for understanding of Missouri’s water resources. They measure both the water level of a stream or river and calculate the volume or flow of water traveling past them. As home to the Mississippi River and Missouri River, as well as a wealth of other rivers and creeks, Missouri depends on its streamgage network for basic hydrologic information. This data supports everything from drought determination and infrastructure design to planning recreational opportunities. When flooding threatens communities, streamgages also provide vital real-time warnings of rising water levels and data for flood forecasting.

Individuals requiring special services or accommodations in order to attend an event can make arrangements by contacting the department’s staff for that event at least 48 hours before the event at 800-361-4827. Hearing- and speech-impaired individuals may contact department staff through Relay Missouri at 800-735-2966.
